Event details
Attendance at the Pre-COP is by invitation only. Invited attendees will be sent registration, accreditation and logistical information directly via email.
Official Pre-COP accreditation badges will be required to access all meeting venues and official event spaces.
Further information about attendance at the stakeholder program will be available soon.
Media attending Pre-COP require media accreditation.
Pre-COP attendees and media are responsible for booking and funding their own travel and accommodation to attend Pre-COP.
A range of accommodation options at negotiated rates will be available through participating accommodation providers.
Information on accommodation options and booking details will be provided directly to attendees following registration.
Overseas participants will be required to complete standard immigration, customs and biosecurity procedures upon arrival in Fiji.
Many nationalities can enter Fiji without a visa and will instead be issued a Visitor Permit on arrival. A list of visa-exempt nationalities is available on the Fiji Ministry of Immigration website.
You are responsible for understanding and meeting your individual entry requirements, including any required visitor permits, or visas prior to travel.
Before boarding your flight, ensure you have:
- A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure from Fiji
- A confirmed return or onward ticket.
- Confirmation of your accommodation.
- Proof of sufficient funds for your stay (if requested).
English will be the working language of Pre-COP.
The governments of Australia and Fiji are committed to delivering an inclusive and accessible Pre-COP experience. Participants will have the opportunity to identify accessibility, mobility, medical, dietary and other requirements during registration. Organisers will work with participants to support reasonable adjustments wherever possible.
Participants are encouraged to notify organisers of accessibility requirements as early as possible to support planning and service delivery.
Please note this information applies to attendance at the official Pre-COP ministerial meetings in Fiji only. It does not apply to the Leaders’ event or stakeholder program.
General information
The official currency of Fiji is the Fiji Dollar (FJD).
Currency exchange services are available at Nadi International Airport, major banks and authorised foreign exchange providers.
ATMs are widely available in Nadi, Denarau Island, Suva and other major population centres.
Participants travelling to outer islands or remote locations are encouraged to carry sufficient cash, as banking and ATM services may be limited
Credit and debit cards are widely accepted at hotels, resorts, restaurants, supermarkets and many tourism-related businesses throughout Fiji. Visa and Mastercard are the most commonly accepted card types.
Some smaller businesses, local markets and transport providers may accept cash only. Card payment surcharges may apply at some establishments.
It is recommended that participants carry a small amount of Fiji Dollars for incidental purchases and transport expenses.
Tipping is not generally expected in Fiji and is not a customary part of service delivery.
Fiji uses Type I electrical outlets with a standard voltage of 240 V and a frequency of 50 Hz.
A universal travel adapter is recommended. Consider compatible power converters for personal electronic devices where necessary.
October falls within Fiji's dry season and is generally characterised by warm tropical conditions.
In the Nadi and Denarau region, average daytime temperatures range between 20°C and 30°C, with moderate humidity. Participants are encouraged to consider local weather conditions when preparing for travel.
Ultraviolet (UV) levels in Fiji can be high throughout the year. Appropriate sun protection, including the use of sunscreen and a hat, together with regular hydration, is recommended when spending time outdoors.
Fiji operates on Fiji Time (FJT), which is UTC +12.
Fiji Day, the country's national day, is observed on 10 October each year. Participants extending their stay may wish to note that local events and celebrations may occur around this period and that some businesses and public services may be closed or operate reduced hours.
Fijians are known for their warm hospitality. Showing respect for local customs is greatly appreciated.
When visiting villages:
- Dress modestly by covering your shoulders and knees.
- A sulu (sarong) is recommended for both men and women.
- Remove hats and sunglasses before entering a village.
- Avoid touching another person's head, as it is considered sacred.
- If walking in front of seated people, politely say "Tulou" as you pass.
Media
Expressions of interest are now open for Pre-COP media accreditation. Submit your EOI via our event management portal.
Media accreditation applies to both the Pre-COP and Leaders’ Program. It does not apply to COP31 in Türkiye. Information about media registration for COP31 is available on the UNFCCC website.
Please note media attendance for the Leaders’ event in Tuvalu will be limited. Details of arrangements for this component will be shared in due course
Under Fijian regulations, telecommunications equipment and radio transmitting devices may require an Import Permit and approval from the Telecommunications Authority of Fiji (TAF) before entering the country.
Please allow sufficient time for permit processing. Failure to obtain required approvals before arrival may result in delays, import restrictions or the inability to use equipment in Fiji.

Accredited media can access:
- a media centre within the Pre-COP venue
- press conference room
- host broadcast and host photography services, providing official coverage of the Pre-COP and Leaders’ Program.
